Nick Diener
Producer / Engineer / Musician

I started recording music sometime around my 12th birthday on a 4-track cassette recorder. I had no idea what I was doing, but it taught me that you need to sound good going IN if you want it to sound good coming OUT. This is still my philosophy. Over the years, I honed my skills by making demos for my own band, The Swellers. In order to get it to sound better without any fancy digital effects, click tracks, or editing tools, I realized the drummer had to hit hard and consistently. We had to play in tune and in time. The producer in me was born.

When word got out that I had some recording equipment, local bands started coming to me to make records. I was 16 and had weird goth kids, crust punks, and tattooed hardcore dudes constantly hanging out in my parents’ basement. You could make a full length record with me in a DAY. Sometimes I’d even forget to ask them for money if i was having too much fun.

I eventually started touring full time by the time I was 19. Getting to see the world just because I decided to play guitar one day was a pretty great feeling. After spending so much time in cool studios recording with The Swellers, I decided to get back into making records for other people in 2011. When I posted online that I needed a guinea pig band to practice recording on, I expected to hear back from some bands in the area, but instead, the first two bands I recorded were from Pensacola, FL and Chattanooga, TN. It seemed people were interested in working with me because of my songwriting and attention to detail. I was shocked and honored.

Actively recording again, I’ve worked on several dozens of projects in just a couple of years. Mark Michalik (who recorded most of The Swellers’ releases, among many other great records) is my go-to guy for mixing and mastering and he makes every record sound incredible. It's amazing hearing sounds from my living room and basement turn into huge, commercial quality recordings. Together, we've made records for artists in nearly every genre, from the most raw to the most polished. The goal is to get every artist a recording that they’re extremely happy with, at a price any artist can afford.
